Local Trail Rides

We are very blessed to have numerous safe, interesting places to ride and enjoy around our local area.

We shudder when we hear of rider’s horror stories when they have come from other agistment centres. Stories of cars tearing around blind corners narrowly missing horses, riders having to send scouts ahead to tell them when it’s safe to try to get around certain bends in the road- I kid you not!!

Just some places to ride are –

Ride on the short unmade road alongside the jumping arena going south and continue past the dead end. You will go down a terrific sand track (fantastic gallop when you’re coming up) and up the other side until you meet the t-junction of Piggott Range Road, then-

Go left – quite a few kilometres of trotting and cantering tracks which are next to the unmade road. The verge alongside the road is extremely wide and in places separated from the road by trees and shrubs. Good, safe trotting and cantering tracks. Continue until the T- junction where directly across the junction is a hundred acres or so of bushland with fallen trees to jump.

Go right – ride all the way down to the township of Old Noarlunga alongside the Onkaparinga Gorge. A great ride wether at a trot or canter, then continue all the way down to the beach if you want to, or

On the way back alongside the Gorge take the first road to the left (Gates Rd) that is a dead end but horses can get through. Then when you come out on bitumen, go hard left a few metres and enjoy the large area behind the Mick O’Shea’s Irish Pub This has a great galloping track around the perimeter, which is nice soft footing and no wire or stones. Then wind your way back home.

A lot of us are great trail riding enthusiasts and know the area pretty well so have a chat to them – better still, go with them on some of their rides, they would welcome your company. They sometimes float the horses to Kuitpo Forest; perhaps you would like to go too?
